SafePath Nigeria collects the following personal information you voluntarily provide during registration and use:

  • Full name, email address, username, and hashed password
  • Age, gender, state of origin, current state
  • Phone and WhatsApp numbers
  • Emergency contact and next of kin details
  • Optional medical information
  • GPS coordinates (ONLY when you activate journey tracking)
  • Journey history and emergency alerts

2. Why We Use GPS

GPS location is used exclusively for the following user-initiated purposes:

  • Live journey tracking (only when you press "Track My Journey")
  • Emergency alert location broadcast (only when you press the emergency button)
  • Route history for your personal journey records

GPS is NEVER accessed in the background, without your consent, or for any purpose other than stated above.

3. Consent Requirements

All tracking on SafePath is strictly consent-based. You must explicitly activate any tracking feature. You may stop tracking at any time by pressing "Stop Tracking" or closing the app. We will never track you without your knowledge.

4. How Tracking Works

When you activate journey tracking, your browser's HTML5 Geolocation API is called. Coordinates are sent to our server periodically (every 30 seconds) while tracking is active. Trusted contacts who have accepted your connection request can view your active journey location within their SafePath dashboard.

5. Data Retention

Journey location history is retained for 12 months from journey completion. Emergency alert records are retained for 24 months. Account data is retained for the lifetime of your account. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time.

6. Your Rights

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to correct inaccurate information
  • Right to delete your account and all data
  • Right to withdraw consent for tracking at any time
  • Right to data portability (contact support)

7. Data Sharing

We do NOT sell your personal data. We do NOT share your data with advertisers. Journey data is shared ONLY with your explicitly accepted trusted contacts within the SafePath platform. Admin staff may access data for safety and system maintenance purposes.

8. Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Database queries use prepared statements to prevent SQL injection. All data transmissions should use HTTPS in production. Location data is accessible only to you and your trusted contacts.
